Mood Booster: Films

Mood Booster: Films

To maintain a positive mood it’s important to participate in activities you enjoy on a regular basis. This may be reading, running, chatting, gaming… it’s whatever works for you 🙂

For me, watching a good old chick flick has ticked this box for many years!

I’m sure I get a cheeky boost of serotonin during films from this genre, especially when the happy couple kiss at the end… #awwwwww

never been kissed

Without further ado, for some cinematic mood-boosting inspiration, here are my top 10 favourite chick flicks.

Top 10

  1. The Notebook – A poor and passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman and gives her a sense of freedom. They soon are separated by their social differences.
  2. Notting Hill – The life of a simple bookshop owner changes when he meets the most famous film star in the world
  3. Bridget Jones’ Diary – A British woman is determined to improve herself while she looks for love in a year in which she keeps a personal diary.
  4. Pretty Woman – A man in a legal but hurtful business needs an escort for some social events, and hires a beautiful prostitute he meets… only to fall in love.
  5. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – Benjamin Barry is an advertising executive and ladies’ man who, to win a big campaign, bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Andie Anderson covers the “How To” beat for “Composure” magazine and is assigned to write an article on “How to Lose a Guy in 10 days.” They meet in a bar shortly after the bet is made.
  6. Never Been Kissed – A journalist enrolls in her old high school as part of her research for a story.
  7. Sweet Home Alabama – A young woman who’s reinvented herself as a New York socialite must return home to Alabama to obtain a divorce from her husband, after seven years of separation.
  8. Serendipity – A couple reunite years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated, convinced that one day they’d end up together.
  9. Life as We Know It – Two single adults become caregivers to an orphaned girl when their mutual best friends die in an accident.
  10. Man Up – A single woman takes the place of a stranger’s blind date

Nothing better sometimes than spending time watching Ally and Noah’s first date, Bridget causing mayhem, and all the other couples falling in love with each other!

For more inspiration, there are some good looking films I’m excited about coming out soon; the first and last in this list are based on fantastic books so here’s hoping the films are just as good!

2016 films I’m excited about:

Me Before You

A girl in a small town forms an unlikely bond with a recently-paralyzed man she’s taking care of

Mother’s Day

mothers day

Three generations come together in the week leading up to Mother’s Day.

Bridget Jones’ Baby

The continuing adventures of British publishing executive Bridget Jones as she enters her 40s.

The Girl on The Train

The Girl on the Train is the story of Rachel Watson’s life post-divorce. Every day, she takes the train in to work in New York, and every day the train passes by her old house. And then one day, as the train passes, she sees something shocking, filling her with rage. The next day, she wakes up with a horrible hangover, various wounds and bruises, and no memory of the night before. She has only a feeling: something bad happened.

Weekend Self-Care

Weekend Self-Care

Work can be busy, very busy. Then you have your home life – more things to do…

Headless chicken anyone?

It’s important to look after yourself, so you have a good stock of energy and resilience!

Remember: self-care can be as simple as mindfully doing activities you do anyway, being present as you do them, and being grateful for the experiences afterwards.

You don’t have to be a headless chicken 🙂

My weekend was full of nurturing activities that made me feel more like a Rainbow finch…

rainbow finch

Haha 😉

Take a look…

Listening to music while driving – simple yet effective

Having a massage – ideal to knead out any knots of stress

Drinking wine with a friend – great Saturday night activity

Visiting a garden centre – full of colour, ideas + greenery

Sitting out in the sunshine – nothing better

Catching up with a friend – friends are precious

Going for a walk – enjoy the fresh air + scenery around you

Watching a film – comedy is good for a Sunday night

What can you do this weekend to look after yourself?

What bird would you like to be? Tell me in the comments, I’d love to know!

Take care,

Mindful Moments

Mindful Moments

Monday; a new day, a new week!

As a avid reader of Psychologies magazine, I stumbled upon a fellow reader Gabrielle Treanor* online, and saw she had started a photo challenge on Instagram. A little late to the party, as the challenge started on May 1st, but better to join in rather than be concerned about missing the first few days!

What am I talking about? The #MindfulMay2016 photo challenge

What does it involve? Gabrielle posted the following instructions on Instagram:

Today is the start of#MindfulMay2016 month-long photo challenge. Let’s take just a few moments each day to slow down, calm the mind and be mindful of what’s going on around us, before we rush onto the next hour, day, week, month.
I’d love for you to join in as often as you like with a photo of your interpretation of each day’s word. Do share this post with anyone you think might like to join us in being a little more mindful this month.

What are the words for each day?

Like the sound of it? Join in the fun on Instagram using #MindfulMay2016

Have I joined in? I sure have! Mindfulness, Instagram… what’s not to like!?

#day9 #kindness #MindfulMay2016

I enjoyed a hearty weekend this weekend attending a special spring wedding; full of love, laughter, sunshine, top notch food, and drink.

It was very uplifting!

In tribute to the happy couple, to this weekend, and to love…

Sooner or Later by Anne Cowden

Sooner or later we begin to understand that love is more than verses on valentines, and romance in the movies. We begin to know that love is here and now, real and true, the most important thing in our lives. For love is the creator of our favourite memories, and the foundation of our fondest dreams. Love is a promise that is always kept, a fortune that can never be spent, a seed that can flourish in even the most unlikely of places. And this radiance that never fades, this mysterious and magical joy, is the greatest treasure of all — one known only by those who love.
